This entry talks about how KitKeeper handles reservations that do not include an email address. While KitKeeper (KK) is driven by reminder emails, there is still a way for patrons without email addresses to receive updates about the status of their kit reservations and check outs. Instead of sending emails to the patron, all the emails will be directed to a designated library staff member with a note at the top instructing the staff member to call the patron.
How to make the reservation
- Login to KK and make a reservation as you normally would.
- Fill out all of the information on the registration page.
- In the Patron Email field, click on the Unavailable link to the right of the empty space. This will fill in the phrase “NO PATRON EMAIL.” This is the only text besides a legitimate email address that the field will accept. See the image to the right for an example of what the reservation page should look like.
- Select Reserve this Kit at the bottom of the page to complete the reservation.
A designated staff member will receive any emails directed to patrons who have filled in NO PATRON EMAIL into the Patron Email field. The email intended for the patron will have the original patron email along with a note at the top instructing the staff member on what to do. It should look something like the image below (although the text may be different, the message will be similar).
Your library should have an Alternate Patron Email (APE) set up for patrons who do not have email addresses.
